about us

We are a family business (including a little watchdog) working in Tasmania for mostly Australian clients.

Our work is of the highest quality, working in timber and other materials: small section solid timber, timber veneers and plywood help with sustainability. We also promote the use of

environmentally friendly materials and finishes including sheet material that is E0 (No off-gassing), water-based lacquers and paints and, a wax-oil for environmental sustainability and longevity.

Paul and Kim Bale initially trained in design and illustration completing BA honours degrees in the rugged county of Cornwall in England. Having set themselves up in the industry, Paul and Kim joined forces to form a small successful studio, Visual Image. They soon became known for their capabilities of meeting tight deadlines on complex design projects which continued for more than fifteen years. As technology moved on apace they both yearned for a more craft-based practice.

Various re-training in England and Australia for Paul and Kim

immediately led to full-time work in design and making commissions. A few examples include: cabinet-making on the super yacht Alcanara; private commissions completing whole interiors of furniture and cabinetry and; undertaking public commissions like the St John of God Hospital Chapel furniture.

Tim Bale is the newest member, bringing with him mathematical and practical skills that are enabling him to make and finish cabinetry on time to high quality. As an integral element to bale & bale he has been expanding the portfolio to include custom-made kitchen and bathroom projects; now already producing excellent results.
